50 hooks for trial reels
Updated September 29, 2026 · TrialReel
A trial reel is shown to people who don't know you. You get one second, not three. The opening line does almost all the work. Here are fifty that stop strangers — use them as on-screen text in the first two seconds, or as the first thing you say.
How to use these
- Pick three that fit the reel. Make three versions, one hook each. Post all three as trials.
- The one with the highest non-follower views wins. Share that one with everyone.
- Keep a note of which hooks win for you. After a month you'll have your own top ten.

Hooks that don't travel
Anything that assumes the viewer knows you: "as I said last week", "for my regulars", inside jokes, your name. Those work on followers and die in trials.
Drop the reel into TrialReel, get a new version with a fresh hook, color and timing, and test it on non-followers. Nothing is uploaded — it renders on your phone. $10 per trial reel.
Open TrialReelCommon questions
Where should the hook go on the video?
Top third or centered, big, high contrast, on screen from the first frame for at least two seconds.
Should the hook be spoken or on screen?
Both if you can. Most trial-reel viewers watch with sound off for the first second, so on-screen text is the one that has to work.
How many hooks should I test per reel?
Three. Enough to see a real difference, few enough to read the results.
