Trial reels requirements: who gets them

Updated September 29, 2026 · TrialReel

Trial reels aren't available to everyone yet. As of 2026, here's what Instagram requires.

The requirements

How to check if you have it

  1. Start a new reel and go to the final share screen.
  2. Look for a Trial toggle under the audience settings.
  3. If it isn't there, you either don't meet a requirement or haven't been included in the rollout yet. Update the app and check again in a few days.

If you're under 1,000 followers

The mechanics of trial reels still apply — you just have to run the test in public. Take your best-performing reel, make a fresh version with a new hook, and post it normally. Your followers will see it, but the point of re-testing proven content is that it usually performs, so the risk is small. Once you cross 1,000, move the experiments into trials.

What doesn't matter

Verification, ad spend, niche, and account age aren't factors. Plenty of new accounts with 1,000 followers have the feature; some older accounts with 50,000 waited. It's a rollout, not a ranking.

Turn a reel you already posted into a trial reel

Drop the reel into TrialReel, get a new version with a fresh hook, color and timing, and test it on non-followers. Nothing is uploaded — it renders on your phone. $10 per trial reel.

Common questions

Do I need 1,000 followers for trial reels?

Yes. Instagram requires at least 1,000 followers and a professional (Creator or Business) account.

I have 1,000 followers but no Trial toggle. Why?

The rollout is gradual. Make sure you're on a professional account and the latest app version, then check back over the next couple of weeks.

Can business accounts use trial reels?
