Submagic is an AI editor for shorts: captions, B-roll, hook titles, silence removal. TrialReel does something narrower. It takes the reels you already have and cuts new versions of them, then sends them out as Instagram trial reels. They solve different problems, and some creators will want both.
Everything about Submagic below was read on its own pages on October 31, 2026.

Where Submagic is the better choice
- You need captions, B-roll, sound effects or translation.
- You edit one video at a time and want it to look polished.
- You want to control how a single video looks, frame by frame.
Where TrialReel is the better choice
- You want volume of new cuts from footage you already have, not a nicer version of one video.
- You want a daily stream of edits rather than a per-video credit count.
- You want edits meant for trial reels, with a rule that the same cut is not made twice for 30 days.
When not to pick TrialReel
If you need animated captions, B-roll or multi-language subtitles on a video, pick Submagic. TrialReel does not add text to your video by default, and it is not a caption designer.
Captions: a note on the free option
Captions do not have to cost anything. PetaPixel reported on April 22, 2025 that Instagram's own Edits app is free, with auto captions and no watermark. If captions are your main need, try Edits before paying for any tool. Our guide to captions on reels covers placement and style.
Two ways to use both
- Make new edits in TrialReel, then add captions in an editor you like before you post. There is no integration; you move the files by hand.
- Or caption one hero video in Submagic, then upload it to TrialReel to get alternate openings and endings. On Autopilot Plus, captions can be turned on inside TrialReel instead.
How to decide
- Is your pain "my video looks plain"? Submagic.
- Is your pain "I do not have enough different videos to post"? TrialReel.
- Not sure? Run the free reel score and see whether the hook or the look is the weak spot.
What we could not check
We did not test Submagic's output. We only read its public pages. It may support Instagram trial reels in ways not described there.
A note on pricing
Submagic prices by videos per month and by maximum video length: 15 videos at 2 minutes on Starter, 40 at 5 minutes on Pro, 100 at 30 minutes on Business, each as listed on its pricing page on October 31, 2026. TrialReel prices by new edits a day for one account. If you edit a handful of long videos a month, Submagic's model may suit you. If you want a steady daily flow of edits cut from the same footage, TrialReel's model fits that better. Neither is cheaper for every case, so count what you actually make.
Start with the free reel score, or take the $9 first week.
