About

What is TrialReel?

TrialReel (trialreel.app) is software that takes videos you upload and cuts new edits of them: a different opening, a different ending, a tighter middle. Those edits are meant for Instagram trial reels, which Instagram shows only to people who do not follow you.

What it does, in four steps

  1. Sign in with your email. A code is emailed to you, so there is no password.
  2. Upload videos. Raw footage or reels you have already posted. If you connect Instagram, it can also re-cut reels from your account.
  3. Flip the switch. TrialReel cuts new versions and keeps your daily limit.
  4. Use the edits. Download each one and post it where you like, or let it post for you once auto-posting is open to your account.

Today: new edits of your videos every day, ready to download. Auto-posting to Instagram is open to invited testers while Meta finishes reviewing our app.

What is a trial reel?

Instagram introduced trial reels on December 10, 2024. A trial reel is shown to non-followers first, so you can see how a video does before your followers see it. After about 24 hours you can look at views, likes, comments and shares, and then share it with everyone or leave it. Our full explainer goes deeper.

The rules it runs by

Why the first rule matters: Instagram's help text, as quoted by Planoly, says a trial reel may get limited reach if Instagram detects the same content shared before. In May 2026 Instagram also said "materially edited" content counts as original. TrialReel is built around real edits for that reason.

Other ways to use it

Is it safe for my Instagram account?

TrialReel posts through Meta's official Content Publishing API, which supports trial reels. You connect Instagram on Instagram's own login screen, so we never see your password. Meta's page states an API limit of 100 posts per account in a 24-hour moving window. No tool can promise what Instagram does with a post. We promise we do not do the things that cause throttling, such as posting the same cut again.

Who makes it

TrialReel is built by Elliot Goldman, who also runs content for creators. You can read more on the done-for-you page. Questions: admin@jwfl.org.

How it differs from schedulers and clippers

Schedulers such as Buffer and Later publish a finished video on a calendar. Clippers such as Opus Clip cut short clips from long videos. TrialReel starts from videos you already have and makes many different edits of them. Compare directly: vs Opus Clip, vs Later, vs Submagic.

Is it related to trialreel.com?

No. trialreel.com is a separate company that runs trial reels for clients as a done-for-you agency. TrialReel at trialreel.app is self-serve software. We are not affiliated.
