OpusClip finds clips in long videos. TrialReel makes new edits of the reels you already have.

OpusClip is built to turn one long video into short clips. TrialReel is built for a different job: you already have videos, and you want Instagram to test many genuinely different edits of them as trial reels. If you record podcasts or webinars and need clips, OpusClip is the better fit. If you want a steady stream of new edits of your own reels, read on.

Where OpusClip is the better choice

Where TrialReel is the better choice

When not to pick TrialReel

If your main need is cutting highlights out of long videos, pick OpusClip. TrialReel does not do that job.

Pricing in plain terms

OpusClip's Pro plan is $29 a month, or $14.50 a month billed annually, with 300 credits. TrialReel's plans are priced by how many new edits you get each day, not by credits: Basic is $49 a month for 5 a day, Autopilot is $99 for 1 to 10 a day, and Autopilot Plus is $249 for 15 to start and up to 25. These plans do different things, so a price comparison alone will mislead you. OpusClip's credits are spent on clipping; TrialReel's plan buys a stream of edits of videos you upload.

Can you use both?

Yes. A reasonable workflow is to use OpusClip to cut highlights from a long recording, then upload the best of them to TrialReel to get different openings and endings. There is no integration between the two. You move the files by hand.

How to decide

  1. Do you have long recordings and no short videos yet? Start with OpusClip.
  2. Do you already have a library of short videos and want more reach from them? Try TrialReel.
  3. Not sure whether your videos are strong? Run the free reel score first.

What we could not check

OpusClip's pages did not mention Instagram trial reels, and that is all we can say. It may support them in ways we did not find. Review counts for OpusClip vary between sites, so we do not quote them.
