An analyzer cannot tell you what Instagram will do. It can tell you whether your video has the problems that usually cost watch time: a slow start, long pauses, the wrong length, captions in the wrong place. That is what the free TrialReel score checks.
Last checked October 31, 2026. The tool itself is at trialreel.app/score. This page explains how to read it.
What you get
Drop in a short video (MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 200 MB, vertical works best). In about a minute you get a predicted score for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, plus the top fixes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and you can score three videos a day. Your video is used only to make the score and is deleted within 24 hours; the score is kept so a share link keeps working.
What it looks at
| Check | What it means |
|---|---|
| The first second | How fast you start talking or show something, and whether the opening line makes people want the rest. |
| The pacing | Words per second, long pauses, and how often the picture changes. Slow spots are where people leave. |
| Retention | A prediction of how long people will keep watching, based on the above. |
| Length and fit | How long the video is against what each app suits, and whether the framing is vertical. |
| Captions | Whether captions are on screen and inside the safe area. |
What the score is not
It is not Instagram data. Nobody outside Instagram, TikTok or YouTube can see their real algorithms, and we do not pretend to. The score is a prediction from our editing rules plus an AI that watches your video the way a strict editor would. A high score does not guarantee views; a low one tells you where to look.
What it is anchored on is what the platforms have said publicly. Adam Mosseri has named watch time, likes per reach and sends per reach as top ranking signals for Instagram, and Reels can now run up to three minutes. The score's checks are aimed at watch time: the first seconds and the pacing.
How to read your result
- Start with the hook. If the first-second score is low, fix that before anything else. Cut the greeting and begin on your best line. See how to write a hook.
- Then pacing. Long pauses and slow stretches are the cheapest things to cut. See how to pace a short video.
- Then length. Longer is only better if people keep watching. See best reel length.
- Then captions. Keep them out of the areas covered by buttons. See the safe zone guide.
A way to use it before you post
- Score the video as it is.
- Fix the top issue only.
- Score it again to see whether the number moved.
- Post it as a trial reel and compare the real result with the prediction.
Over time the useful signal is not the number. It is whether the videos you improve actually do better with strangers.
Using it on edits, not just originals
TrialReel's members get every new edit scored automatically. Today: new edits of your videos every day, ready to download. Auto-posting to Instagram is open to invited testers while Meta finishes reviewing our app. If you only want the checker, you never need an account.
When to skip it
If you already know a video is for your existing audience only, such as a personal update, a score tuned for strangers is not what you need. And if your video is a tutorial that people seek out, a slower pace may be right for it.
Example: a quick before-and-after
Suppose your score report says the first spoken word arrives late and there is a long pause in the middle. The fix is cheap and needs no new footage: trim the greeting so the video opens on your best sentence, and cut the pause. Score it again. If the opening score moves, you have learned something about your own videos that applies to the next one. If it does not move, the problem is probably the idea, not the edit, and that is worth knowing before you spend an hour polishing.
What it cannot see
The score cannot know your audience, your niche or whether your topic is trending. It watches the video, not the account. Two videos with the same score can perform very differently, which is why the last step in the list above, comparing the prediction with the real result, matters more than the number.
